Event Description: The 2008 Recognition Night was held on October 30, 2008. The theme was Instruments of Peace, based on St Francis' prayer, "Make me an Instrument of Peace".
Honored was Maria Volpe Professor of Sociology, Director of the Dispute Resolution Program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. With great enthusiasm Maria shared her "Make Talk Work" project with young people and their plans to promote their series of bookmarks on how to make talk work: i.e. "Use Silence to listen and hear more. Take time to think. The Network for Peace honored Maria as an educator for justice, a promoter of dialogue and as a networker for peace.
Also honored was Leo A Corbie posthumously who was a beloved friend and supporter, a multi-talented man who graciously shared his gifts with others. For many years he shared his gift of music and love of jazz with us at celebrations and Recognition Nights. Helen Corbie spoke so graciously for the family in receiving the plaque in which Leo was declared an "Instrument of Peace" and Roni Ben-Hur who played with him at Network events played a special piece in his honor. Guy Bennett from Christies magnificently led the live auction.
